Privacy Policy
This page explains, in plain terms, what Gold Rate Today does and does not do with your data. The short version: your calculator inputs (weight, unit, karat) never leave your browser, the live price data this site fetches is anonymous and one-directional, and the only data this site collects about you is anonymous and does not identify you.
What the calculator does with your input
The gold rate calculator on every page of this site runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. When you type a weight, choose a unit or select a karat purity, that value is used immediately by code running on your own device to compute a result. It is never transmitted to this site's servers, logged, or stored anywhere outside your browser.
Your last-used weight, unit and karat selection are saved to your browser's local storage so the calculator remembers your preference if you refresh the page or come back later. Local storage is a standard browser feature, similar to a cookie but not sent over the network with every request; it stays on your device until you clear it through your browser's settings.
Live price data this site fetches
To show a live gold rate, this site's calculator makes two outbound requests directly from your browser each time you load a calculator page: one to api.gold-api.com for the current international gold spot price, and one to cdn.jsdelivr.net (a currency-data feed) for the current USD-to-INR exchange rate. Both are read-only, public, unauthenticated data requests - no calculator input, personal information, or identifying data is sent as part of either request, only a standard request for the current price/rate. If either fetch fails (for example, due to a temporary network issue), the calculator falls back to a recent, source-labelled reference value stored in this site's own code and displays a notice that live data is unavailable, rather than silently showing an outdated number as if it were current.
The feedback button
Each tool on this site has a small "give feedback" control. Using it sends a single anonymous signal to this site's server: which tool you rated, and your short text comment if you choose to write one. No calculator input (weight, unit, karat, or the resulting price) is included in that signal, and no cookie, IP address, or device fingerprint is stored alongside it beyond what is necessary to prevent automated abuse of the feedback form.
Analytics and advertising
If this site uses a web analytics service, it is a privacy-focused, cookieless option that reports only aggregate figures such as total visits, popular pages, and country-level location - it does not track individuals across visits or across other websites. If this site displays advertising, the advertising network may use its own cookies or similar technology, governed by that network's own privacy policy rather than this one; this site does not share your calculator inputs with any advertiser under any circumstances, because those inputs never reach this site's server in the first place.
Cookies and local storage
This site does not use tracking cookies of its own. It uses your browser's local storage (not a cookie) to remember your theme preference (light or dark) and your last-used calculator inputs, purely for your own convenience on return visits. You can clear this at any time via your browser's site-data settings, or by using the calculator's own Reset control where available.
Third-party links
Pages on this site may link to third-party jewellers, bullion associations, or reference sources (for example, when explaining what the IBJA reference rate is). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party site you reach by following a link from this one, and encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site before providing it with personal information.
Your rights and contact
You can request details of any data this site holds that could identify you (which, based on the description above, is minimal to none for a typical visitor), or ask a question about this policy, by writing to the contact address below. We will respond as promptly as we reasonably can.
Data retention
Because calculator inputs never reach this site's server, there is nothing to retain or delete on that front - the data simply never exists outside your own browser session unless you choose to save it there via local storage, which you control directly. Anonymous feedback signals (see above) are retained in aggregate form to help improve the tools on this site, without any way to trace an individual signal back to a specific visitor.
Children's privacy
This site is a general-purpose reference tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, given the architecture described throughout this page - calculator inputs stay on-device, and the only server-side data collected (anonymous feedback signals and, if enabled, cookieless aggregate analytics) does not identify any individual visitor, child or adult.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site handles data changes in the future (for example, if a new feature were added that required collecting additional information), this page will be updated to reflect that change, along with the "last updated" date shown at the top of this page. We do not expect the core design described here - calculations running entirely in your browser - to change, since it is the simplest and most private way to build a calculator like this one.
